The Reading Course

What Is Quran Reading with Tajweed?

This is the course you take once you can read the Arabic letters, usually after finishing Noorani Qaida. Instead of practice pages, you now read from the Mushaf itself, and your teacher listens to every word and corrects it on the spot.

Tajweed is the set of rules for reciting the Quran the way it was revealed: each letter from its correct point, each sound given its right length, and each stop made in the right place. Reading with Tajweed protects the meaning of the words and gives your recitation the calm, steady rhythm the Quran deserves.

وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا

"And recite the Quran with measured, clear recitation."

Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:4

Who This Course Is For

Students who have finished Noorani Qaida: the natural next step. The letters are already familiar, so every class goes into reading fluently and applying the rules in real verses.

Women who already read, but want to read correctly: many sisters learned to read as children without Tajweed and now notice mistakes they cannot fix on their own. A teacher who listens closely is the quickest way to correct them.

Girls and kids: children who read the Quran slowly or with mistakes build fluency and confidence with a patient female teacher, one page at a time.

Not sure where you fit? Your teacher will check your reading in the free trial and tell you whether to start here or with the Noorani Qaida course.

Our Method

The Tajweed Rules You Will Master, Stage by Stage

Rules are never taught as a list to memorise. Each one is explained in simple words, then practised straight away in the verses you are reading, until it becomes natural.

Makharij and Sifaat

Where each letter comes from and its qualities, so letters that sound alike, such as ح and ه, stay clearly different.

Rules of Noon Sakinah and Tanween

Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab and Ikhfa: when the noon sound is said clearly, merged, changed to meem or hidden.

Rules of Meem Sakinah

Ikhfa Shafawi, Idgham Shafawi and Izhar Shafawi, the three ways a resting meem is read.

Madd: The Lengthened Sounds

How long to stretch each vowel, from the natural two counts to the longer Madd before a hamza or a sukoon.

Ghunnah and Qalqalah

The nasal sound on noon and meem with shaddah, and the gentle echo on ق ط ب ج د.

Heavy and Light Letters

Which letters are always read full and heavy, and when Raa and the Lam in the name of Allah are heavy or light.

Waqf: Stopping and Starting Correctly

What the stopping signs in the Mushaf mean, where you must stop, where you must not, and how to begin again without changing the meaning of a verse.

What a 30-Minute Class Looks Like

First 5 minutes

The student reads back the last lesson's page, and the teacher checks the corrections have stayed.

Next 15 minutes

New verses are read line by line, with one Tajweed rule explained and practised in them.

Last 10 minutes

The student reads the new part again on her own, and gets a short page to practise before the next class.

Correcting Recitation

The Mistakes We Correct Every Day

Most reading mistakes are small and repeated, so the reader rarely notices them. A trained ear catches them in the first few lines, and a few weeks of gentle correction is usually enough to fix them for good.

Sounds That Slip

ح ه

Haa read as HaThe deep throat sound becomes a light breath.

ع ء

Ayn read as AlifThe throat sound of Ayn disappears.

ق ك

Qaaf read as KaafThe deep Qaaf moves forward in the mouth.

ض د

Daad read as DaalThe heavy Daad loses its full sound.

آ

Rushing the MaddLong vowels are cut short when reading fast.

نّ

Dropping the GhunnahThe nasal sound on noon and meem is skipped.

By the End of This Course, You Can:

  • Read the Quran fluently from the Mushaf, without spelling out words
  • Say each letter from its correct Makharij
  • Apply the rules of Noon Sakinah, Meem Sakinah, Madd and Ghunnah as you read
  • Tell heavy and light letters apart and read them correctly
  • Stop and start at the right places using the Waqf signs

What comes after this course? With fluent, correct reading in place, many students move on to memorising the Quran, or to translation and Tafseer to understand what they recite. See all our online Quran courses.

For Every Age

Tajweed Reading Classes for Kids and for Adults

Kids & Girls

Tajweed Classes for Kids

Children learn Tajweed best by hearing it and copying it. The teacher reads a line, the child repeats it, and the rule behind it is explained in simple words only once the sound is right. Short daily classes keep children focused and help them remember.

Parents are welcome to sit in, and many mothers find they pick up the rules alongside their daughters.

Sisters & Adults

Tajweed Classes for Adults

Many adult students already read the Quran but want to read it properly. Classes focus on the exact mistakes in your own reading, with the reasons behind each rule explained, so you can keep correcting yourself between classes.

Lessons fit around work, home and family, and you never have to read in front of a group.

Our Teachers

Certified Teachers With a Trained Ear

Our teachers are certified in Tajweed, with years of experience teaching online. Correcting recitation needs a sharp ear for small mistakes, such as a Madd held one count too short or a Ghunnah that disappears, and the patience to fix it kindly, again and again, until it stays fixed.

Before a teacher takes a single class, we check her own recitation and how she explains a rule to a beginner, so every student is in safe hands from the first lesson.

Female Quran Teachers

Female Quran Teacher Online is focused on women, girls and kids. Reading aloud and being corrected is easier when you feel comfortable, which is why so many sisters and families choose a female teacher for Tajweed.

Students Feedback

What Our Students Say

"I am enrolled in Female Quran Tajweed Online course because I wanted to correct my Quran recitation as I struggle with that quite a lot but it was so hard to find an Islamic institute in Los Angeles, USA. My friend recommended the Femalequranteacheronline.com institute. Their staff is very kind and supportive. I attend one-on-one zoom meetings with my assigned teacher who is a certified professional and quite patient as I am a slow learner."
Momina Ishaq Los Angeles, USA · Tajweed
"I have opted for the course Female Quran Tafseer Online. I live in England and I got to know about this institute through my neighbor. I do not take her suggestions lightly when she told me about the website Femalequranteacheronline.com, I hurriedly reached out to them and got enrolled in the program. I feel so grateful and blessed to be a part of this institute."

FAQ

Quran Reading with Tajweed: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Tajweed and why does it matter?

Tajweed is the set of rules for reciting the Quran correctly: where each letter comes from, how long each sound is held, and where to stop. Some mistakes can change the meaning of a word, so reading with Tajweed protects the meaning and keeps your recitation close to how the Quran was revealed.

Do I need to finish Noorani Qaida before this course?

If you cannot yet read the Arabic letters, start with Noorani Qaida. If you can already read, even slowly, you can usually start here. Your teacher will check your level in the free trial.

I can already read the Quran. Is this course still useful for me?

Yes. Many of our students read for years without Tajweed. The teacher listens to your reading, finds the mistakes you repeat, and corrects them one by one until your recitation is clear and confident.

What Tajweed rules will I learn?

Makharij and Sifaat, the rules of Noon Sakinah and Tanween, Meem Sakinah, Madd, Ghunnah and Qalqalah, heavy and light letters, and Waqf (stopping and starting).

Will I be taught by a female teacher?

Yes. Our Tajweed classes are taught by female teachers, and parents are welcome to sit in with younger children.

Can children join this course?

Yes. Children who have finished Noorani Qaida, or who read the Quran slowly, learn well in short one-on-one classes with a patient female teacher.

Is this course a good step before memorizing the Quran?

Yes. Memorizing is much easier and safer when your reading is already correct, because you memorize the right sounds from the start instead of fixing mistakes later.

How much does the course cost?

The fee is $30 a month in the USA, £30 in the UK and €30 in Europe, for 20 one-on-one classes of 30 minutes each. Your first 3 trial classes are free.

How are the classes conducted?

Classes are live and one-on-one on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp. Each class is 30 minutes, and in some cases it can be extended up to 40 minutes.

Can we choose class timings ourselves?

Yes. Tell us the time that suits you, and we will find a teacher who is available then.

What if I miss a class?

Let us know, and a make-up class can be rescheduled on your request.

What do I need to get started?

A laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone, an internet connection and a Mushaf if you have one. Your teacher can also share the page on screen.
