The Foundation Course

What Is Noorani Qaida, and Why Does It Come First?

Noorani Qaida is the beginner's book that teaches you to read Arabic letters correctly before you read the Quran. It covers the shape and sound of each letter, how letters join together, the short vowels, and the first rules of correct recitation. Every new reader, child or adult, should finish it before opening the Quran.

Skipping the Qaida is one of the most common mistakes families make. A reader who skips it tends to guess sounds, mix up letters that look alike, and pick up habits that are hard to undo later. The Qaida trains the eye, the ear and the tongue together, so by the time a student finishes it, reading the Quran feels natural instead of forced.

خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ

"The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it."

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ · Sahih al-Bukhari 5027

Why Every Beginner Starts Here

For children: young learners pick up sounds faster than adults, but only if they are taught correctly from day one. A child who learns each letter properly keeps that habit for life. A child who is rushed through often mispronounces letters for years, because no one corrected them early.

For adults: many adults feel the Qaida is too basic, especially if they already read Urdu. But Quran recitation has its own rules. Tajweed, Makharij and correct vowel sounds do not come from reading Urdu or English. Starting with the Qaida gives adults real confidence instead of worry every time they open the Quran.

And Allah has told us that the Quran is made easy to remember (Surah Al-Qamar 54:17). The Qaida is simply the first, gentle step toward it.

Our Method

How We Teach Noorani Qaida, Letter by Letter

Our method rests on one rule: a student never moves to the next letter, word or rule until the current one is correct. Not close enough, but correct. Here is what that looks like, stage by stage.

Letter Recognition

Every Arabic letter by its shape, on its own and in its beginning, middle and end forms.

Makharij: Where Sounds Come From

Where each sound is made in the mouth or throat, including the harder letters like ع Ayn, ح Haa, ض Daad and ظ Zhaa.

Harakaat

Fatha, Kasra and Damma, and how each short vowel changes a letter's sound.

Tanween, Jazm and Sukoon

The doubled sounds and the stopped sounds, practised until they are automatic.

Long and Soft Vowels

The long Madd and soft Leen sounds that beginners are often rushed through.

Joined Words and Short Verses

Putting everything together into real words, then short verses of the Quran.

Stopping Signs

Where to pause and how to read the stopping signs printed in the Quran, so the student finishes the Qaida ready to read the Quran itself, slowly and correctly. Allah tells us to recite the Quran in a measured way (Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:4), and this is where that habit begins.

What a 30-Minute Class Looks Like

First 5 minutes

The student reads the last lesson back, and the teacher checks it is still correct.

Next 15 minutes

The new letters, sounds or rule, taught and repeated until they are right.

Last 10 minutes

The student reads aloud while the teacher corrects each sound, then gets a short practice task for the next day.

Starting From Zero

The Qaida for Students With No Arabic Background

Most of our students, adults especially, start with no Arabic at all. That is normal, and it is exactly who the Qaida is written for. We assume nothing: every letter, sound and rule is taught from the beginning, in plain words, with as much repetition as the student needs.

Letters Beginners Mix Up Most

س ص

Seen & SaadA light S and a heavy S.

ت ط

Taa & TwaaA light T and a heavy T.

ز ذ ظ

Zaa, Dhaal & ZhaaOften all read as Z, but each has its own sound.

ه ح

Haa & HaaOne from the middle of the throat, one from the deepest part.

ع ء

Ayn & HamzaTwo different throat sounds, taught separately from the first weeks.

ك ق

Kaaf & QaafKaaf from further forward, Qaaf from the back of the tongue.

By the End of the Qaida, You Can:

  • Read every Arabic letter in every position of a word
  • Say each letter from its correct Makharij
  • Read words with short and long vowels, Tanween, Sukoon and Shaddah
  • Read short verses slowly, without spelling out each word
  • Stop and pause correctly at the common signs

What comes after the Qaida? Once you finish, you move to Quran reading with Tajweed (Nazra). The letters are already familiar, the sounds already trained, and the first Tajweed rules already in place, so the Quran feels much easier once the Qaida is finished properly. For Every Age

Qaida Classes for Kids and for Adults

Ages 4+

Qaida Classes for Kids

Our classes for kids are built for short attention spans. Lessons use quick drills, plenty of repetition and steady praise, so a 6- or 8-year-old stays focused for the whole class. Parents are welcome to sit beside their child, and many do in the first few weeks.

Want to help between classes? Ten minutes of reading aloud together each day works far better than one long session at the weekend.

Sisters & Adults

Qaida Classes for Adults

Our classes for adults move at a different pace. Adults usually want to know why a rule works, not just repeat it, so teachers spend more time on the reasons behind each sound. Classes fit around work, home and family instead of a school timetable.

The standard is the same for both: a live one-on-one class, mistakes fixed on the spot, and a pace set by the student.

Our Teachers

Certified Teachers, Chosen for Patience

Our teachers are certified, with years of experience teaching online, and trained in Tajweed and in teaching Makharij to complete beginners. We look for patience, a sharp ear for small mistakes, and the ability to explain one rule three different ways until it clicks.

Before a teacher takes a single class, we check her own recitation and Tajweed, and how she explains a rule to a beginner. Then we watch how she handles the same mistake the third time, because the Qaida is learned through patient repetition.

Female Quran Teachers

Female Quran Teacher Online is focused on women, girls and kids. Sisters can learn comfortably and privately from home, at times that suit them, without needing to travel anywhere.

Tell us the student's age and your preferred time when you book your trial, and we will match you with the right teacher.

What Our Students Say

"After reverting to Islam, I searched for a good Islamic institute but in Australia, it is nearly impossible. Therefore, a Muslim friend of mine suggested me this website and I enrolled in the course Start reading Noorani Qaida so that I could learn to read Quran. The staff is very supportive and motivating."

"I am enrolled in Female Quran Tajweed Online course because I wanted to correct my Quran recitation as I struggle with that quite a lot but it was so hard to find an Islamic institute in Los Angeles, USA. My friend recommended the Femalequranteacheronline.com institute. Their staff is very kind and supportive. I attend one-on-one zoom meetings with my assigned teacher who is a certified professional and quite patient as I am a slow learner."

FAQ

Noorani Qaida: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Noorani Qaida and why is it important?

It is a beginner's book that teaches Arabic letters, their sounds and how they join. It builds correct pronunciation before you read the Quran, so every later course, from reading and Tajweed to translation, stands on a solid foundation.

Is Noorani Qaida necessary before reading the Quran?

For beginners, yes. If you already read Arabic letters well, your teacher may move you straight to Quran reading after the trial classes.

At what age can a child start learning Noorani Qaida?

Most children start between ages 4 and 6. We teach children from age 4, and the lessons can be followed by anyone, from a 4-year-old child to an elderly learner.

Will my daughter be taught by a female teacher?

Yes. Our Noorani Qaida classes are taught by female teachers, and parents are welcome to sit in, especially with younger children.

Can adults learn Noorani Qaida online?

Yes. Many of our students are sisters and adults starting from zero, including new Muslims. One-on-one classes let you learn at your own pace, at times that fit around work and family.

How long does it take to complete the Noorani Qaida?

It depends on how many classes you take and how much you practise. Adults usually take around 6 to 8 months. For children, it depends on their age, level and the support given at home.

How much does the Noorani Qaida course cost?

The fee is $30 a month in the USA, £30 in the UK and €30 in Europe, for 20 one-on-one classes of 30 minutes each. Your first 3 trial classes are free.

What is Makharij and why does it matter?

Makharij are the points in the mouth and throat where each letter is made. Saying a letter from the wrong point can change a word's meaning, which is why we teach it carefully from the first weeks.

How are the classes conducted?

Classes are live and one-on-one on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp. Each class is 30 minutes, and in some cases it can be extended up to 40 minutes.

Can we choose class timings ourselves?

Yes. Tell us the time that suits you, and we will find a teacher who is available then.

What if I miss a class?

Let us know, and a make-up class can be rescheduled on your request.

What do I need to get started?

A laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone and an internet connection. That is all.

Online Noorani Qaida Classes, Wherever You Live

Our Noorani Qaida classes are fully online, so families join from the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Europe and the Gulf. Every class is booked in your own time zone: a child in London can learn after school, and a mother in Toronto can learn after work. Many children abroad grow up with little Arabic script at home, so we teach them from zero.
