The Hifz Course

What Is Hifz, and How Does Online Memorization Work?

Hifz means memorizing the Quran, so that you can recite it from your heart, correctly and with Tajweed. A person who has memorized the whole Quran is called a Hafiz, or Hafiza for a woman.

Online Hifz works the same way as Hifz in a madrasa, only one-on-one and from home. Every day you recite your new lesson to your teacher, then revise what you memorized before. The teacher listens to every word, corrects mistakes straight away, and sets the next lesson. Memorizing a little every day, and revising every day, is what makes the Quran stay.

يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا

"It will be said to the companion of the Quran: Recite, rise, and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank will be at the last verse you recite."

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ · Sunan Abi Dawud 1464

Who This Course Is For

Girls and children: children memorize quickly when they practise every day. Most start once they can read the Quran fluently, often from around 6 or 7 years old.

Women and mothers: many sisters always wished to memorize the Quran but never had a teacher or the time. One short class a day, at a time that fits around family and work, makes it possible, whether you aim for the whole Quran or a few surahs.

Hafizas who want to revise: if you memorized the Quran as a child and parts have faded, a teacher who listens every day is the surest way to make it firm again.

Before you start: you should be able to read the Quran fluently with basic Tajweed. If not, begin with Quran Reading with Tajweed first, so you memorize the correct sounds from day one.

Our Method

Sabaq, Sabqi and Manzil: The Daily Hifz Cycle

Memorizing new verses is the easy part. Keeping them is the real work. That is why every class includes revision, using the same three-part method taught in madrasas for generations.

Sabaq

The New Lesson

A few new lines or a part of a page, memorized and then recited to the teacher without looking. The length grows as the student grows stronger.

Sabqi

Recent Revision

The lessons memorized over the last days and weeks, recited every day so they move from short-term to long-term memory.

Manzil

Older Revision

Older portions revised in rotation, so the first Juz you memorized stays as strong as the last.

What a 30-Minute Hifz Class Looks Like

First 10 minutes

The student recites her Manzil and Sabqi from memory, and the teacher marks any weak places to repeat.

Next 10 minutes

The student recites today's new Sabaq. Mistakes in words or Tajweed are corrected on the spot.

Last 10 minutes

The teacher reads the next lesson with the student, checks the Tajweed, and sets the plan for home practice.

An Honest Guide

How Long Does It Take to Memorize the Quran?

There is no fixed timeline. It depends on age, practice at home and how much is memorized each day. We would rather give you an honest guide than a promise.

A simple way to estimate

In the common 15-line Mushaf, the Quran has about 604 pages, and each Juz is about 20 pages. Classes run 5 days a week, so the daily lesson size decides the pace.

Revision days, exams, travel and holidays add extra time, and that is normal. Steady daily revision matters far more than speed. Your teacher will set a pace that you or your child can keep up.

A few lines a daySelected surahs first
Half a page a dayAbout 1 Juz in 2 months
One page a dayAbout 1 Juz in 1 month
Full Quran at half a page a dayAbout 4 to 5 years
Full Quran at one page a dayAbout 2 to 2.5 years

Before You Begin

What You Need to Start Hifz

  • Read the Quran fluently from the Mushaf, without spelling out words
  • Know the basic Tajweed rules, such as Madd, Ghunnah and Noon Sakinah
  • A fixed time each day for your class and home practice
  • One Mushaf that you always memorize from, so the page stays in your mind
  • A phone, tablet or laptop with a steady internet connection

The Result

By the End of Your Hifz Plan, You Can:

  • Recite your chosen surahs or Juz from memory, with Tajweed
  • Keep your memorization firm with a daily revision routine
  • Recite longer surahs from memory in your salah
  • Continue memorizing on your own with a method that works
  • For full Hifz, recite the complete Quran from memory

For Every Age

Hifz Classes for Kids and for Adults

Kids & Girls

Hifz Classes for Kids

Children memorize best with short lessons, lots of repetition and steady encouragement. We usually begin with Juz Amma, the short surahs they already hear in salah, before moving to longer surahs.

Parents play a big part: a quiet ten minutes of listening to your child's Sabaq at home each evening makes the next class much easier.

Sisters & Adults

Hifz Classes for Adults

Adults often worry their memory is not what it was. In practice, adults memorize well when the daily lesson is the right size and revision is never skipped. Your teacher builds the plan around your real day, not an ideal one.

Many sisters start with a few surahs, find the routine works, and then set a bigger goal.

Practical Advice

Tips That Make Memorization Stick

For Students

  • Read each new line aloud 10 to 20 times before joining it to the next
  • Always memorize from the same Mushaf
  • Listen to a slow, clear recitation of your lesson before you sleep
  • Recite your new surahs in your salah
  • Never skip revision, even on days you skip new lessons

For Parents

  • Keep the same time for Quran every day
  • Listen to your child's Sabaq at home for a few minutes
  • Praise effort and consistency, not only speed
  • Keep the class space quiet, with the Mushaf ready
  • Stay in touch with the teacher through WhatsApp updates

Our Teachers

Teachers Who Listen to Every Word

Hifz needs a teacher with a careful ear and a lot of patience. Our teachers are certified in Quran and Tajweed and experienced in teaching Hifz online. They catch the small slips that are easy to miss, such as a skipped word, a changed vowel or a mixed-up verse, and correct them before they settle into memory.

Before a teacher takes a Hifz student, we check her own recitation and how she runs a revision plan, because good Hifz teaching is as much about revision as new lessons.

Female Quran Teachers

Female Quran Teacher Online is focused on women, girls and kids. Reciting from memory every day, and being corrected, is much easier when you feel at ease with your teacher. That is why so many sisters and families choose a female teacher for Hifz.

Tell us the student's age, reading level and goal when you book your trial, and we will match you with the right teacher.

Students Feedback

What Our Students Say

"I am a mother of 2 toddlers and going out is not an easy thing for me as they absorb all of my energy and time but this institute has made Quranic learning an easy process for me because I can learn the translation of the Quran without going out. I have chosen Female Quran Translation Online and I am doing fine. This is a blessing in disguise as I couldn't find any Islamic institute in Canada."
Umm e Musa Canada · Quran Translation
"I am enrolled in Female Quran Tajweed Online course because I wanted to correct my Quran recitation as I struggle with that quite a lot but it was so hard to find an Islamic institute in Los Angeles, USA. My friend recommended the Femalequranteacheronline.com institute. Their staff is very kind and supportive. I attend one-on-one zoom meetings with my assigned teacher who is a certified professional and quite patient as I am a slow learner."

FAQ

Quran Memorization (Hifz): Frequently Asked Questions

Can I really memorize the Quran online?

Yes. Hifz has always been taught by a student reciting to a teacher who listens and corrects. A live one-on-one video class does exactly that, every day, from your home.

What age can a child start Hifz?

There is no single right age. Most children start once they read the Quran fluently, often around 6 or 7. Younger children can begin with short surahs by listening and repeating.

Do I need to read with Tajweed before starting?

You should read fluently with basic Tajweed, so you memorize the correct sounds from the start. If you are not there yet, begin with our Quran Reading with Tajweed course.

How long does it take to memorize the whole Quran?

It depends on the daily lesson and practice at home. As a rough guide, at one page a day, five days a week, the full Quran takes about 2 to 2.5 years. At half a page a day, it takes about 4 to 5 years. Revision and holidays add extra time.

Can I memorize only some surahs instead of the whole Quran?

Yes. Many sisters start with Juz Amma or surahs such as Al-Mulk, Yaseen, Ar-Rahman or Al-Kahf. You can move to a bigger goal at any time.

I memorized the Quran as a child but have forgotten parts. Can you help?

Yes. Our revision plan has you recite to your teacher every day, starting with the parts that need the most work, until your Hifz is firm again.

How can I keep revising during my monthly cycle?

Many sisters ask this. Scholars differ on reciting and touching the Mushaf during menstruation, and your teacher can talk through the common approaches, such as listening to recitation or revising from memory, according to the view your family follows.

Will my daughter be taught by a female teacher?

Yes. Our Hifz classes are taught by female teachers, and parents are welcome to sit in with younger children.

How much does the Hifz course cost?

The fee is $30 a month in the USA, £30 in the UK and €30 in Europe, for 20 one-on-one classes of 30 minutes each. Your first 3 trial classes are free.

How are the classes conducted?

Classes are live and one-on-one on Zoom, Microsoft Teams or WhatsApp. Each class is 30 minutes, and in some cases it can be extended up to 40 minutes.

What if I miss a class?

Let us know, and a make-up class can be rescheduled on your request. Try to keep up your revision at home on missed days.

What do I need to get started?

A laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone, an internet connection and your own Mushaf to memorize from.
